The Owner-Operator's Window Cleaning App: Cleaning, Routing and Billing From One Phone

A lot of window cleaning businesses are one person, one van, a couple of ladders and a pole. The owner is the tech, the dispatcher, the bookkeeper and the person answering the phone from the top of a ladder. For that owner, the tech app is not a tool for managing a crew. It is how they keep the office work from eating their evenings.

One Person, Both Sides of the App

Planning the Day in Ten Minutes

The planning routine for a solo operator is short:

• Check the Waiting List. Every recurring cleaning that has come due shows on a map, colored by status: not due yet, due now, or overdue past a 7-day grace. Quarterly houses, twice-a-year houses and monthly storefronts come due on their own.
• Pick tomorrow's jobs. Choose a cluster of due jobs on the map that make a sensible day, and assign them to tomorrow.
• Set the order. Auto-route Closest First or Furthest First from home, or drag the jobs into order by hand.
• Glance at the forecast. If rain is coming, move tomorrow's outside-only jobs now rather than skipping them in the morning.

Customers who want the night-before text get it automatically. The owner does not have to text anyone.

Running the Day From the Phone

In the morning, the owner opens the tech app and works the list exactly like any tech would: navigation, read the card, before photos, Start, clean, after photos, Complete. Window count, stories, sides, extras and access notes are all on the card.

For a solo operator, the card matters more than you might think. The owner quoted every house, but they quoted hundreds of houses. Remembering which one has the inside on the plan, which one has the skylights and which one has the dog that escapes is exactly what the card is for. Billing Happens While You Clean

This is where a solo operator gains the most. Every Complete creates an invoice from the job, and if the customer has a card on file and charges on completion, the card is charged right then. There is no billing night. There is no stack of paper to type up.

Customers without a card on file can pay online from the customer app. Past-due follow-up handles reminders, so the owner is not personally chasing every late payer. When a homeowner asks for screens while the owner is on site, there is no office to call. The owner adds the extra as a line item themselves before tapping Complete, from the office side on the same phone.

Answering the Phone Less

The biggest drain on a solo operator's day is interruptions: “When are you coming?” “Can I change my card?” “Did you get the back windows?” Each call means climbing down or stopping mid-pane.
