You're Stop 12 of 20: What Window Cleaning Customers See on the Route Map
A window cleaning appointment is usually a day, not a time. “We'll be there Thursday” is honest, but it leaves the customer guessing. Do they need to be home at 9 or at 2? Can they run to the store? Should the dog stay in all day? A live view of the route answers those questions without a single phone call.
From the Office Map to the Customer's Phone
The previous article, Crew GPS on the Office Map: Watching Window Cleaning Routes as They Run, covered how the office sees the vans. Customers get their own view, designed for their side of the day.
In the WindowBossPro customer app, customers can see today's route on a live map on their service day. The app shows their place in line in plain words, along the lines of “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.”
What the Customer Sees, and Doesn't
The customer sees their own position on the route and how many stops are ahead of them. They see the crew getting closer as the day moves. That is all they need to plan.
They do not see other customers' names or details. The view is about their place in line, not about who else you are cleaning for. That matters for privacy, and it matters for trust: customers like knowing where they stand without feeling like they are looking at someone else's business.
Why It Matters for Window Cleaning
Window cleaning has more “be ready” moments than most services:
- Inside cleanings. Someone has to be home to open the door, and ideally to have moved the plants off the sills.
- Dogs. The crew needs the back yard clear before the ladder goes up.
- Cars and patio furniture. The ladder spot by the side of the house is often where the second car parks.
- Gates. Some customers prefer to open the gate themselves rather than share a code.
When the customer can see the crew is five stops away, they have time to handle all of that. The tech pulls up to a house that is ready, and the stop goes fast.
Paired With Alerts
The live map works alongside the alerts customers choose: night before, when they're next and when the tech arrives. A typical pattern is a customer who gets the night-before reminder, checks the map in the morning to see roughly when to expect the crew, then gets the “you're next” text when it is time to put the dog in. For the alerts themselves, see ETA and Arrived Texts: Telling Window Cleaning Customers When the Van Is Coming.
Why Route Order Must Be Right
The stop number comes from the route order on the dispatch board, the same order the tech sees on their phone. If the office auto-routes the day Closest First or Furthest First and then sets a couple of stops by hand, that final order is what customers see.
That makes a good morning routine more important. A route that is reshuffled at noon without updating the order means stop 12 is suddenly stop 4, and a customer who planned around the map is caught off guard. Keep the board current and the customer's view stays accurate. Closest First or Furthest First: Setting Window Cleaning Route Order From the Shop covers how to set it.
More Than a Map
The route view is one part of the customer app. Customers can also request service, sign up for services and pricing, update the card on file, see invoices and pay, and rate and refer. A customer who opens the app to check where the crew is might also notice it is a good time to add screen cleaning next visit, or to send a referral to the neighbor who asked who does their windows.
For the office, every customer who checks the app instead of calling is a call the office does not have to take.
Storefronts and Property Managers
The route view is not only for homeowners. A storefront manager who wants to be there when the crew does the inside door glass can check the map and walk over at the right time. A property manager with several buildings can see when the crew is getting close to each one and let the front desk know. Because each address is its own stop, each location shows its own place in line on the route that day.
For customers who never open the app, the texts still do the job. The map is an extra for the people who like to plan.
Show Customers Their Place in Line
“You're stop 12 of 20” turns a vague service day into something a customer can plan around. It cuts calls, gets houses ready and makes every stop faster. For the routing tools behind it, visit the WindowBossPro window cleaning route software page.
