Retail Shop Window Cleaning: Keeping Display Glass Clean on a Two-Week Cycle
For a retail shop, the front window is the sign, the advertising and the first impression all at once. Shop owners know that. It is why retail is such a steady part of most storefront routes, and why the shops that sign up tend to stay as long as you show up.
What Retail Owners Care About
Restaurants care about grease and timing, as covered in Restaurant Window Cleaning Accounts: Greasy Glass, Early Mornings and Managers Who Change. Retail owners care about the display. A boutique, a bookstore, a phone repair shop or a bike shop wants people on the sidewalk to see the merchandise, not the streaks.
That means retail accounts usually include the outside of the front windows and the door glass at minimum, and often the inside of the display windows too. Door glass is where the most work is. Every customer pushes on it, and every kid presses their face against the window by the toys.
Why Two Weeks Fits Retail
Most retail shops settle on every two weeks for the outside and door glass. Monthly is enough for a quiet office supply store, but a busy shop on a walking street can look tired after three weeks. Some shops do the outside every two weeks and the inside monthly.
In WindowBossPro, each recurring service has its own minimum days between visits. Set the outside at 14 days and the inside at 30 if that is what the owner wants. Each comes due on the Waiting List map on its own, and the pins turn from due now to overdue after a 7-day grace if something gets missed. Nobody has to keep a calendar of which shop is due when.
For more on choosing the cycle, see Monthly or Every Two Weeks: Setting the Storefront Window Cleaning Schedule.
Working Around Store Hours
Retail shops usually open between 9 and 11, which gives a storefront route a generous morning. The outside glass can be done any time, but owners prefer before opening, when there is nobody in the doorway. Inside display glass is easier when someone from the shop is there to let you in and move a mannequin if needed.
Write the shop's preference on the address: “Owner arrives 9:15, inside display only after she is there. Outside any time before 10.” The note shows on the tech's phone under the address. On the dispatch board, auto-route the day Closest First or Furthest First from the shop, then move the shops with tight windows to the right spot in the order.
Display Windows Need Care
Display windows come with their own risks. There may be merchandise against the glass, decals or painted lettering, and sometimes a seasonal display that the owner spent a weekend building. Note these on the address so every tech knows:
- “Painted logo on main pane, do not scrape, soft pad only.”
- “Display inside is fragile, do not reach in, outside of display glass only.”
- “Decal on door, work around it.”
Before and after photos from the tech app help here too. If an owner ever says a decal was damaged, a photo from the last visit shows what it looked like when you left.
Billing a Retail Shop
Single shops are simple to bill on card on file. When the tech taps Complete, an invoice with line items and sales tax is created, and the card can be charged automatically. The owner does not have to approve anything or write a check.
A small chain with three or four locations is a different case. Put the owner in as one client, add each shop as its own address, and set the account to Monthly billing. Each month they get one statement covering every visit, each line labeled with the address. That is much easier for a busy owner than a stack of separate invoices.
Keeping Retail Accounts Happy
Retail owners leave when the glass is dirty on the day they notice it. The best defense is never missing a cycle. A few other habits help:
- Turn on the night-before alert for owners who want it, so they know to clear the doorway.
- Text a photo after the first few visits so the owner sees the work.
- Offer a one-time interior clean before the holiday season, quoted and approved online.
- Tag every retail client Storefront so the route is easy to review.
